1. Make Product Options Truly Functional

   Product options need several changes to be truly functional:

   -If they are required, IBY should show it on the product page with bold/asterisk/etc. so it's not a surprise at checkout

   -Options should be dynamic in the DB so that when they are changed, all productions with them change as well (this is tied to larger suggestion I've made that product offerings should be in one place and price lists would be made of those components so items / enhancements aren't siloed by price list, which requires duplication and, worse, lots of mindless updates when changes are made to a vendor catalogue)

   -Options should be separable by meaningful groups like "Mounting Options," "Retouching Options," Etc. both for ease of navigation and to address the issue that in a list of all options, you can currently only make the options writ large required when you may only want certain options to be required

   -Options should have images in IBY (and, really, option groups should have them as well)

   -Options should be able to be products themselves and have quantity options that make sense: product would allow, like a package, allow you to sell automatically fulfilled digital versions of all images contained in an album, multi-node image product, etc. and quantity would allow you to vary price by both making the number of images sold match the number of images in an album, etc. (for this, the quantity would dynamically change with the number of images in album) and allow end users to change the quantity of the option so they could order two grandparents' copies of the same album itself (for this, you'd need to be able to select a quantity for the option)

2. Use an Alpha Channel Layers to Indicate Droppable Areas for Template Builder

   As I build out templates, I'm finding that I'm very concerned about exactitude in the margins, particularly for things like framed prints where being off by 1/8" of an inch will short a print and make a white edge stick out like a sore thumb against a white mat. An older software suite I used to use had a similar ability to make your own templates (though not propagate them to the end user online - S+'s great innovation), and that software could recognize an alpha channel in a layer, which the software then interpreted as draggable. That software wasn't sophisticated enough to handle layers on the z axis, so you had to have at least a single pixel separating images to give the impression of depth in your designs, but if Stratus could pick out the draggable areas for each layer and then stack them, so much the better. I'm not sure about alpha channels and .png files, but perhaps some strange color like green screen could be used in a .png to signal a drop area if nothing else. The end to be achieved: I could rest easy knowing my boundaries were perfectly square, flush, etc. because I made it in Photoshop. I just can't trust it's close enough in the template builder for the most demanding production, and I don't have the resources to check it at scale manually.

3. Indicate Images Already Selected Progressively

   As an end user for IBY, when I make my 4 selections for something like a "4 digital images" product, I'd like to see the images that I've already selected indicated in some way (so I don't select the same image twice). This is even more of an issue when selecting images for a large package. I can't keep straight which images I've already selected... a big issue for my subject matter where there are many similars and I'm moreover using a fairly aggressive watermark.

4. Add a Link on Digital Fulfillment Landing Page and IBY Order Details that Initiates Download

   People love the quick digital fulfillment with Stratus, but they are getting confused about how to download the images after clicking the digital delivery link because the general populace is just not tech savvy enough to know to right click the image and Save As. I think some simple directions on that page would help, too, especially for zip files.

   I really think the digital images download URL also should be added to the IBY Orders at least as a link in the line item that says "Click here to download" if not also adding a column for ~"Downloadable Images" to the Orders overview table that has things like Order number / Shipped to / Status / etc. - I'd include a number of images that can be downloaded as the table entry that is a hyperlink to the digital fulfillment page for downloads of that order. As ever, I'm a huge fan of simplicity in sites for clarity, but having some kind of unmistakable directions on that page would be a good idea. So maybe the heading is something like "Number of Digital Images Ordered" with a "(Click to download") as second line in the table column header - column entry is just a number with hyperlink.

5. Allow limitation of promos to client groups (ideally even filters), not just statuses

   I'm trying to restrict a promo to only certain people in a shoot, specifically to people who have placed an order but had trouble so I can send them a make-right promo. Right now, I can only change their status individually to get it done, and there could be a good reason I have a client set to something specific, don't want it changed. Since I can layer on Client Groups without affecting anything, they're the better choice for targeting. A filter obviously opens up all kinds of targeting over just client groups (while including client groups).

6. Allow price list change via automation and time elapsed (i.e. change price list after x days)

   Sytist (my old cart) had the ability to set a price list change to happen on a certain date in future at the gallery level. This was very useful for promotions where the better price goes away. There are reasons why you'd want to do it this way (maybe certain items - or a whole class of items - will no longer be available after the change) rather than using a sale or promo. I'm making a "sale" price list that I will inflate by 20% via replacement price list rather than use a promo code to do the sale so that people don't forget to use the code and email about it.

7. Add descriptions to shipping methods so that I don't have to copy and paste delivery infoto each IBY product

   Delivery info is done by product in IBY settings right now. I would like to have a unified place to put shipping policies that would automatically apply from product shipping methods so I don't have to add delivery information for all lustre print sizes by hand (I'm aware I can make a product and duplicate it as a workaround)

8. Allow products to be in multiple price list groups

   This would prevent price list bloat since copies can't have the same product code. I want to have digital add-ons to packages in both the package group and digital images group because I think people will go both places to look for them. Had to create duplicate product with boilerplate product code to get it done, adding unnecessary second product when a ~pointer/reference would suffice.

9. Limit display of images to select for package selection to only those with a valid tag

   I have certain images with text already integrated for a bag tag product I'm selling in a package. I also have team photos that are the only ones that make sense to use to fill a team photo product type (and that I moreover want to exclude from certain product types such as digital images to prevent just one parent buying a digital of a group photo and circulating it). If images could be tagged with ~image types, that would allow IBY to ~filter images shown for package selection only to those that would be acceptable if at the product level not just products could be restricted by tag but images themselves.

   Right now I'm working around this by making a directive "USE AN IMAGE WITH TEXT" as part of my Bag Tag online product description, but it's obviously not the look I'm going for as a premium brand. My ideal case would be that when it's time for picking a team picture as part of a package, only team-picture-tagged images would show; when it's time to do a bag tag, same deal; and when it's time to order a digital image, all the sudden the team picture is nowhere to be found. I think the way to get this done is with image tags and Price List Maint -> Misc. -> Options settings for image not just product tags.

10. Give Products and Product Categories URLs for direct linking from either a separate Web site or at least a relative link from within Stratus

    I'm using HTML in my product descriptions, and I want to be able to use a hyperlink, not just a related product listing, in order to redirect clients to another product. Reason could be things like upsell, picking components for a multi-component product, etc. In WordPress, you don't have to use a full URL, just a relative page. This would allow a photographer to have a product listing on her or his Web site with a link that would take you directly from the site to the product in IBY to actually order. This is how ROES works in conjunction with labs FYI: labs have large product listings online with descriptions and links to the correct item inside the correct catalogue.

11. Create a Simple Digital Assets Container for Use with HTML around IBY and in Email Marketing, etc.

    I'm doing extensive HTML work on IBY descriptions, and I want to include some images. To do that, I have to have a URL where those images are hosted, and it would be ideal if the URL were a Stratus Drive URL so I don't have to figure out a place to upload a thumbnail image of some product option and link to it.

12. Make default Artboard layouts for packages and dynamically populate them with client-selected image in IBY

    I've put in a lot of effort to make Adobe Photoshop Artboards that neatly lay out all of my package components (if unfamiliar, google artboards) so that an 8x10, (2) 5x7s, (8) Wallets, etc. all neatly lay out and overlap, making sure to save as the required 450px x 330px and then making them all over again - including single product versions of all the components (e.g. 8x10 Individual by itself) with text. Making the Artboards is a hassle. I'd really love it if IBY had pre-laid-out packages I could use off the shelf that were basically ~picture frames that when an end user on IBY selected an image to use for the package, the picture frames would all be dynamically filled with the selected image. This would give the customer a look at what his or her pictures would actually look like in the package layout, and moreover, it would save me the trouble of making all the artboards for each unique school / team / etc. I cover so that I don't have to remake everything if I shoot a marching band one day and a karate studio the next.

    Only thing I can think might be an issue is do you just show a blank version if the client doesn't pick a picture? Maybe you preload the first or key image in the packages and then just dynamically change it if they pick a different image.

14. Standardize IBY Navigational Tab Subheadings

    IBY Nav Tabs (Home, Sessions, Etc.) all have sub-headings on hover, and they should be standardized linguistically for professional presentation: either use a call to action (verb phrase) or a general descriptor (noun phrase) for all of them, don't mix and match.

    Mixed:

    Help - "Get help from our team"
    Sessions - "Online pictures of your family"

    Standardized:

    Help - "Get help from our team"
    Sessions - "View and order pictures of your family"

    Help - "Knowledgebase, FAQ, and Contact Information"
    Sessions - "Photoshoots and Images"

    I would also standardize formatting. Right now, Sessions uses capitalization for each word, while Help uses capitalization for only first word of a phrase. That's fine; just make sure if you want to capitalize each word, do it for all. This problem should take care of itself logically if the wording is standardized. My two cents is use a capital for each word besides prepositions and articles if y'all use Noun Phrases and just capitalize the first word if verb phrases.

    Last: if using verb phrases, standardize the person, don't mix. "Chat for online support" gives directions to someone else. "Let me securely log out" asks a direction from someone else.

    This will make the site look more professional.

16. Add "Most Popular" and "Best Value" ~Badges to IBY as Product Overlays or Added Descriptors

    I just posted about making IBY Sales Ranking sort settings work based upon actual sales, and I think a built-in "Most Popular" or "Top Seller" - while cheesy - would tap into the Social Proof Sales Psychology effect and lead to increased sales. I would actually make it so that you could choose a "Top Seller" or whatever manually and ignore actual sales to push a certain product.

    Same deal with "Best Value": I have advocated for a ~value calculator being added to Stratus that simply adds up the retail price of all package components for you instead of having to do it in a spreadsheet like I am currently. With that data, you could bubble up the actual "Best Value" item in a price list, but I'd also like to reserve the right to use the term "Value" in a qualitative, not necessarily quantitative way in order to move a certain product. In my price list, I always have a high outlier to set a price anchor (concept is from "Never Split the Difference" book about negotiation) and because someone always has to have the best no matter what the price. I then denote the second price list item (always sorted from highest to lowest price per sales psych best practices) as "BEST VALUE!" because it just works.

    Right now, you manually adjust IBY product display order by choosing an integer from a dropdown. I think there should actually be two modes:

    1) Sort based on actual sales so that biggest sellers do bubble up

    2) Change existing functionality to "Custom" and allow users to sort as they wish

18. Stratus Mobile Apps: Use Camera to Read QRs / Replicate Entagged (both Processes to Use Time Stamps)

    As y'all know, I've been working with the QR codes extensively of late, and I believe a good solution for making the QR codes work well is to use a tablet at the shooting station to scan QR codes generated by Stratus. This would solve the resolution issue (as well as toner issue if printing yourself) of needing to print QRs large enough to be read by software at 50mm from ~10' so you can fill frame with the largest Hi-Lite background made (like y'all saw from my most recent shoot): people can just walk to the photographer's station to have their code scanned; an assistant could do it; or you could set up a kiosk of sorts (probably asking for trouble, but could be done).

    You'd read in the timestamps, so now they're known. Photographer could sign in to the app, so you know what station goes with what set of time stamps (this is a major, major concern - consider time brackets from multiple sets... how do you know whose image it is if three kids are all getting photographed within seconds and several codes have been stamped?). I'd suggest making it a process where the photographer has to photograph the device itself open in a Web browser to time.is using program mode on the camera (to solve for lighting issues - camera will otherwise be ultra dark). You could even make an option to force photographer to ingest the time.is image so that the software could verify that it read the time. We use time.is shots at the start of all shoots (I learned this working for a large wire service who is very particular about accurate timestamps) to make sure that cameras are synced from multiple views from multiple cameras.

    With a time.is reference, you could 1) Verify the time.is can be read; 2) Link a camera serial number in metadata to a mobile device that read the codes so that you can then have time brackets for identifying session client photographed per camera; 3) Either harvest the time from time.is and create a delta from the camera time to fix the time brackets automatically or force the photographer to fix time on camera before proceeding if the scanned time doesn't match the time.is capture time as recorded by the camera; 4) Use the QR scan to check off a student from class list you're working on so photographers know whose been photographed or is missing... could even do some simple stats like "12 students left to photograph" whatever.

    The Entagged App uses the checkoff with list mode. I could write a book about what Stratus could do with all the data it has (chapters might include "Shoot List Tree Structures using Organization/Client Data for Elementary Schools" or "Live Database Updates and Temp Client Records for Athletes Added to Rosters Late to Picture Day") that could more than replicate existing Entagged functionality short of actually writing metadata to files in-camera using their proprietary dongle. I have always loved Entagged and was a very early adopter, but I don't like how the codes don't always sync (you may have to tap a person's name several times before it takes) or that the list is a paid service now. With a robust timestamp feature - I would absolutely enforce time.is - this would be a home run.

    As y'all know, I've been working with the QR codes extensively of late, and I believe a good solution for making the QR codes work well is to use a tablet at the shooting station to scan QR codes generated by Stratus. This would solve the resolution issue (as well as toner issue if printing yourself) of needing to print QRs large enough to be read by software at 50mm from ~10' so you can fill frame with the largest Hi-Lite background made (like y'all saw from my most recent shoot): people can just walk to the photographer's station to… more

19. Use Session Direct Login Link for QR Codes instead of Session Number So Clients Can Keep Handout and Scan It

    I got this idea from Sheryl Bashore at one of her recent classes... shooting with QR codes is very fast since you don't have to listen to a 7-year-old garble his or her name three times and select it from a list. QR code sheets can also serve as a handout for clients to take home with them, getting photographers two for one on their money.

    The QR code itself, if turned into the direct Session Login Link, could be scanned by parents to take them directly to the gallery once it's posted. Bonus points for adding ~Session Sale Start/End Dates to Session Records - I use Custom Vars for this - so that the QR/Handout could also say, "Scan the QR Code on or after {StratusSaleStartVar}." Since Stratus is so rich with data, you could also add some information about a Session Promotion (eligible dates, promotional item offered, etc.), Sale End Date, etc. all programmatically.

    My clients are emailing me saying they've scanned the session QR code but that it's not working - this isn't just a feature request; clients, whom I usually solve for the least common denominator with technology, are actually expecting this functionality.

20. Integrate and AI chatbot in the Help section of IBY, and give the bot access to Stratus DB

    From what I can tell, photo industry software solutions are all focused on using AI to lessen THEIR customer service load, which I actually do like after beta testing the Stratus AI chatbot - it saves trouble of contacting S+ support and adds a kind of after-hours support. I think the major, major opportunity is to help photographers deploy AI for addressing PHOTOGRAPHERS' customer service burden. Maybe this becomes a revenue stream in the form of a ChatGPT subscription y'all could make margin on by getting wholesale price and selling to photographers at face value?

    Stratus stands out because of its fully integrated CRM and production, and that would be like "running uphill" in Silicone Valley speak (watch "How to Start a Startup" from Stanford Business school online in episode about how "competition is for losers"): you'd first have to do all the setup of CRM and production monitoring, etc. if you're another photo platform before you could even think about deploying a chatbot that could answer questions like, "what's the tracking number for my latest order"? Or, "how can I reschedule my senior cap and gown appointment." I'm sick of answering "can you apply the promo code I forgot to enter for me"? While I don't think it's a good idea to put guns in the hands of AI (maybe I watched too much Terminator as a kid), I'd happily hand over to AI at least certain use cases that would just give the AI authority to do a partial or whole refund - "I accidentally ordered twice" -> AI checks to ensure two orders are in fact identical and just refunds one without bothering me.

    I've looked into this extensively and would have to look into my research to find which chatbot I found that could tie into SQL, but you can just look at Sunshine Platform for use case of how a client might want to say, "how can I change the shipping address for my order": https://www.zendesk.com/platform/. That's the idea, and S+ is uniquely poised to deploy.
